Seven Bangladeshi Nationals Arrested In Thane For Illegal Stay In India
Thane police arrest seven Bangladeshis, including six women, for residing in India without documents.
Kalyan police in Maharashtra’s Thane district arrested seven Bangladeshi nationals, including six women, on September 9 for illegally residing in India without valid documentation. The arrests, part of ongoing efforts to curb unauthorized immigration, occurred near Kalyan railway station, where authorities spotted suspicious activity, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone III) Atul Zende.
On Monday evening, a patrolling team detained six women found loitering near the station. “They carried Bangladeshi birth certificates and identity cards but failed to produce any valid Indian documents to justify their stay,” Zende told reporters. The following day, police apprehended a man exhibiting similar suspicious behavior, later identified as a Bangladeshi national lacking travel or immigration papers. During interrogation, the group admitted to illegally crossing the India-Bangladesh border and traveling to Mumbai by train.
A case has been registered under the Indian Passport Act and Foreigners Act, with charges including unlawful entry and residence. Police are investigating potential links to human trafficking networks, as similar cases have raised concerns about organized immigration rackets. The arrests follow a pattern of recent detentions in Thane, with 80 Bangladeshi nationals apprehended in Kalyan-Dombivli last year.
