Second Air India Flight Diversion in a day: Delhi-Bengaluru Plane Lands Safely in Bhopal
Delhi-Bengaluru plane lands in Bhopal after midair scare.
An Air India A320 Neo flight (AI 2487) carrying 172 passengers from Delhi to Bengaluru was forced to divert to Bhopal on Monday evening due to a suspected technical malfunction, marking the airline’s second emergency diversion of the day. The aircraft, which departed Indira Gandhi International Airport at 6:47 p.m., declared an emergency around 7:30 p.m. after pilots detected the issue mid-flight. It landed safely at Bhopal’s Raja Bhoj Airport without incident.
Air India confirmed the diversion in a statement, explaining that precautionary checks revealed a fault requiring extended repairs. “The aircraft is undergoing thorough inspection,” the airline said, assuring passengers of full ground support. Arrangements were swiftly made for meals, accommodation, and onward travel, with efforts underway to resume the journey at the earliest.
This was the second Air India flight to face an in-flight emergency on November 3. Earlier in the day, another aircraft encountered a similar snag, prompting a diversion. While no injuries were reported in either case, the back-to-back incidents have raised questions about fleet maintenance and operational reliability during peak travel season.

Passengers expressed frustration over delays but praised the crew’s calm handling of the situation. “We felt a slight shudder, then the captain announced the diversion—everyone stayed composed,” one traveler told reporters at Bhopal. Air India apologized for the inconvenience and reaffirmed its commitment to safety as the top priority.
As engineers work through the night on repairs, the airline faces mounting pressure to address recurring technical concerns. With both aircraft now grounded for inspection, travelers await clarity on rescheduling while aviation authorities monitor the developments closely.
