Seattle Shooting Probe: Police Say Three Gunmen Involved, Teen Suspect Arrested
Teen arrested as Seattle shooting probe continues
A 15-year-old has been arrested in connection with a deadly shooting at a crowded food festival near Seattle's Space Needle, with police saying at least three shooters may have been involved in the violence. Authorities said the incident, which occurred during the final hours of the annual Bite of Seattle festival, appeared to involve an exchange of gunfire between two groups. According to documents filed in juvenile court in Seattle, investigators believe there were at least three suspects involved in the shooting. The suspects include the 15-year-old who was arrested, a 19-year-old acquaintance who was killed at the scene, and at least one additional unidentified person who remains at large.
The teenager appeared in juvenile court on Monday and waived an initial appearance. A judge ordered the 15-year-old to remain in juvenile detention while authorities investigate allegations involving firearms violations and first-degree assault. The King County prosecutor's office is expected to receive the case from the Seattle Police Department on Wednesday before deciding on formal charges. Seattle Police Department Assistant Chief of Investigations Nicole Powell said investigators believe the shooting may have been connected to gang activity.
Speaking at a news conference on Monday, Powell said the evidence suggested that two groups may have exchanged gunfire during the incident, leading to chaos among festival attendees. The shooting broke out at around 6 pm on Sunday as the Bite of Seattle festival was nearing its conclusion. The incident left three people dead and at least four others injured, including a toddler. The festival, held annually at Seattle Center near the iconic Space Needle, attracts hundreds of food vendors, retailers, performers and thousands of visitors over its three-day run.

Witnesses described scenes of panic as gunshots rang out in the crowded festival area. Many attendees rushed into nearby buildings for safety, while others fled the park as police responded to the scene. Emergency crews treated injured victims, and authorities quickly began securing the area and collecting evidence. The Seattle Police Department has continued investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting, including the identities and roles of all individuals believed to be involved. Authorities are also examining whether the incident was planned or resulted from an escalation between rival groups.
The arrest of the teenager marks the first major development in the investigation, but police said the case remains active as they search for the additional suspect. Investigators are expected to review surveillance footage, witness accounts and forensic evidence to determine the sequence of events that led to the deadly gunfire. The violence has renewed concerns over gun-related incidents at large public gatherings, particularly events that attract families and large crowds.
Local officials and law enforcement agencies have emphasised the need for continued efforts to address illegal firearm possession and prevent similar incidents in public spaces. As the investigation progresses, prosecutors will determine the next legal steps for the arrested teenager, while police continue efforts to identify and locate the remaining suspect. The deadly shooting has left the Seattle community shaken, with authorities promising a thorough investigation into the attack and accountability for those responsible.
