Saudi Arabia Intercepts Over 60 Drones In Single Night as Gulf Conflict Intensifies
Saudi Arabia intercepts 61 drones overnight in eastern regions amid Gulf conflict.
Saudi Arabia announced that its air defence systems intercepted more than 60 drones in the eastern region of the country during the early hours of Monday. According to figures released by the Saudi Ministry of Defense, a total of 61 drones were shot down after midnight as part of a large-scale aerial interception operation.
The defence ministry shared a series of updates on the social media platform X, confirming that Saudi air defence units detected multiple drones approaching sensitive areas in the east of the country. Military systems were immediately activated to track and intercept the incoming aircraft before they could reach their intended targets. Officials said the operation successfully neutralised all the drones without any reported damage or casualties.
Although authorities did not immediately specify who launched the drones, the interceptions come at a time of rising regional tensions linked to the ongoing conflict involving Iran, Israel and the United States. The broader conflict has already led to several military exchanges across the Middle East, raising fears that attacks could spread to other countries in the region.

The eastern region of Saudi Arabia is particularly significant because it hosts some of the country’s most important oil production facilities and export infrastructure. Several major oil fields and processing plants are located there, making the area a strategic target during periods of regional instability. Any disruption to these facilities could affect global energy supplies and international oil markets.
Security experts note that drone attacks have become increasingly common in modern conflicts because they are relatively inexpensive and can travel long distances while carrying explosives. Countries in the Middle East have therefore strengthened their air defence systems to detect and destroy such threats quickly.
Saudi authorities stated that their defence forces remain on high alert and are closely monitoring the country’s airspace. The military has also reassured the public that all necessary measures are being taken to safeguard critical infrastructure, residential areas and energy facilities from further attacks as tensions continue to escalate across the region.
