Sanjay Raut Demands Apology from Fadnavis, Rane Over Aaditya Thackeray’s Defamation in Disha Salian Case
Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut on Thursday called for Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and state minister Nitesh Rane to issue a public apology to Aaditya Thackeray, following a Mumbai Police affidavit that cleared the Sena (UBT) MLA of any involvement in the death of former celebrity manager Disha Salian.
Salian died on June 8, 2020, after falling from the 14th floor of a Malad residential building, with police concluding it was a suicide with no foul play. The affidavit, submitted to the Bombay High Court last month, contradicted claims by Salian’s father, Satish Salian, who alleged gangrape and murder in a petition seeking a CBI probe and an FIR against Thackeray.
Raut, addressing reporters, accused Fadnavis and Nitesh Rane, son of BJP MP Narayan Rane, of misusing power to malign Thackeray’s image. “The police report clearly states Aaditya Thackeray had no involvement. Those who made baseless allegations must apologise to him and the people of Maharashtra,” Raut demanded, warning that “defaming others for political gains will have consequences.”

NCP (SP) MLA Rohit Pawar echoed Raut’s sentiments, condemning BJP leaders and Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena faction for using “foul language” against Thackeray to mislead the public. Pawar urged action against those responsible for the smear campaign.
Defending the government, BJP leader Sudhir Mungantiwar dismissed opposition claims, stating, “The government never pressures probe agencies. Police investigations are based on evidence, and opposition leaders are prejudiced against the state.” Nitesh Rane had previously demanded Thackeray’s resignation after Satish Salian’s petition in March.
The controversy, now before the Bombay High Court, awaits further hearing on July 16, as political tensions escalate over the high-profile case.
