Russian Missile And Drone Attacks Kill Nine In Kyiv Overnight Strikes

Russian strikes on Kyiv kill nine and injure 14 in overnight attacks.

At least nine people were killed and 14 others injured after Russia launched a fresh wave of missile and drone strikes on the Ukrainian capital Kyiv early Tuesday, according to officials cited in local reports. The attacks triggered multiple explosions across the city and caused widespread disruptions, including partial power outages in several districts.

The first wave of strikes reportedly hit Kyiv around 1:30 a.m. local time, followed by additional waves at approximately 2:15 a.m. and 4:00 a.m. Residents reported hearing repeated blasts across the city as Ukrainian air defence systems attempted to intercept incoming missiles and drones. Videos shared on social media showed powerful explosions lighting up the night sky, followed by darkness in several neighbourhoods due to disrupted electricity supply.

Kyiv Mayor Vitaly Klitschko confirmed that parts of the capital experienced blackouts after the strikes and urged residents to remain in shelters as air defence operations continued. Emergency services were deployed to multiple districts where debris from intercepted projectiles reportedly caused fires in residential buildings, courtyards, and open areas, further complicating rescue efforts.

Authorities said the fatalities and injuries were caused largely by falling debris from intercepted missiles and drones, which triggered secondary fires in populated areas. Additional explosions were also reported in other regions of Ukraine, including Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, Sumy, and Kharkiv, indicating a broader pattern of coordinated strikes beyond the capital.

While social media footage suggested the possibility of secondary explosions that could indicate hits on ammunition or arms storage sites, these claims have not been independently verified. Ukrainian officials have maintained tight control over operational details and have not released specific information about targeted locations or military losses.

The latest strikes come amid heightened hostilities, following earlier Russian announcements of intensified attacks on Ukrainian military infrastructure in response to previous incidents. The Russian Defence Ministry has not yet issued an official statement on the reported assault, even as both sides continue to exchange accusations and escalate military operations in the ongoing conflict.
