Russian Attacks Leave 7 Dead In Ukraine After Reported Trump-Putin Diesel Agreement

Deadly strikes coincide with a reported diesel agreement between Trump and Putin.

At least seven people, including three children, were killed in Russian airstrikes in Ukraine’s southeastern Zaporizhzhia region on Saturday, October 10, as Moscow intensified its attacks on Ukrainian territory. Regional military administration head Mykhailo Semikin confirmed the deaths after Russian aerial bombs struck residential buildings. At least 10 people were wounded in the attack, according to Ukrainian officials. The strikes came amid continued fighting between Russian and Ukrainian forces, with civilian areas facing repeated bombardments as the war continued.

The latest attack came a day after US President Donald Trump announced an agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin for Russia to supply diesel to American and global markets. Trump said the arrangement was intended to help address rising fuel prices, with Russia expected to deliver more than 300,000 tonnes of diesel immediately, followed by additional shipments in the coming months. The announcement marked a significant shift from Washington’s earlier efforts to restrict Russian energy revenues through sanctions imposed over Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy criticised the agreement, warning that allowing Russian fuel exports under eased sanctions could provide Moscow with additional revenue to sustain its military campaign. In a social media post, he argued that concessions without a clear and lasting reduction in hostilities would undermine efforts to end the conflict. Zelenskyy also expressed concern that the arrangement could encourage further attacks on Ukrainian territory while reducing the economic pressure on the Russian government.

The latest casualties came amid a broader escalation in aerial attacks, with Ukrainian officials reporting that more than 55 people had been killed in Russian bombardments over the preceding four days. Both countries have increasingly relied on long-range drones and other aerial weapons, even as fighting along much of the front line has remained largely deadlocked. Ukraine has struggled to counter the scale of Russian attacks, while continuing to launch strikes against targets inside Russia. The sustained exchanges have placed additional pressure on civilian communities and emergency services.

Trump’s diesel announcement also drew attention because it followed a new round of US measures intended to limit Russia’s energy revenues. The agreement was announced while American envoys were meeting Ukrainian representatives in Miami to discuss possible approaches to ending the war. The developments have raised questions about the direction of US policy towards Moscow and the impact of energy trade on diplomatic efforts. Meanwhile, the latest deaths in Zaporizhzhia underscored the continuing humanitarian cost of the conflict, as attacks on Ukrainian communities persisted alongside renewed international discussions about its future.
