Russia Rejects Trump’s Ukraine Victory Remarks as Dangerous

Kremlin dismisses Trump’s claim Ukraine can win back lost territories.

The Kremlin on Wednesday firmly dismissed US President Donald Trump’s remarks that Ukraine, with European Union support, could reclaim territories lost to Russia. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, in an interview with RosBusinessConsulting (RBC) radio, described Russia as an “integral part of European security” and rejected Trump’s statements as undermining Russia’s role in the region’s stability.

Trump’s comments, posted on Truth Social following a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, marked a notable shift in his stance. Previously urging Kyiv to make concessions, Trump now claimed that Ukraine could “fight and WIN all of Ukraine back in its original form,” citing Russia’s economic struggles due to the ongoing war. He suggested that the conflict has weakened Russia, creating an opportunity for Ukraine to act decisively.

Peskov attributed Trump’s change in tone to his recent discussions with Zelenskyy, noting that the Ukrainian leader’s perspective likely influenced the US president’s assessment. However, Peskov emphasized that the Kremlin “cannot agree with everything” Trump said, particularly his framing of the Russia-Ukraine conflict. The spokesman argued that European security cannot be achieved at the expense of Russia’s own security interests, a stance Moscow has consistently maintained.

The Kremlin’s response highlights the ongoing tensions surrounding the Russia-Ukraine conflict, with Trump’s remarks adding a new layer of complexity to international discourse. Peskov also addressed the timing of Moscow’s reaction, explaining that Trump’s late-night statement coincided with Moscow’s time zone, delaying an immediate response.

As global leaders continue to navigate the war’s implications, the Kremlin’s rejection of Trump’s position underscores the challenges of aligning Western and Russian perspectives on Ukraine’s territorial integrity and European security. The evolving rhetoric from Washington and Moscow signals potential shifts in diplomatic strategies as the conflict persists.
