Russia And Ukraine Exchange Strikes, Three Civilians Killed In Border Regions

Civilians killed as Russia-Ukraine border strikes intensify.

Three civilians have been killed in renewed cross-border strikes between Russia and Ukraine, as both sides exchanged overnight attacks in border regions amid the ongoing conflict. Officials from both countries confirmed the casualties on Friday, highlighting continued escalation in areas along the frontlines of the war that began in February 2022.

In Russia’s Bryansk region, two civilians were killed and two others injured after Ukrainian forces reportedly struck the settlement of Suzemka with artillery fire, according to acting regional governor Egor Kovalchuk. The attack adds to a series of recent strikes on Russian border areas, which Moscow has increasingly reported in recent months.

On the Ukrainian side, a 44-year-old woman working as a rail station operator was killed during a drone attack in the Sumy region while attempting to reach a shelter. The head of Ukrainian Railways confirmed the incident, adding that another station employee was injured in the same strike. Authorities said the attack occurred during intensified aerial assaults in the border region.

Further casualties were reported in southern Ukraine’s Mykolaiv region, where at least three people were injured in separate strikes. Regional officials said emergency services were deployed to assess damage and assist those affected as air raid alerts continued across multiple areas.

The latest exchange of fire comes amid a sustained pattern of cross-border attacks, with Ukraine increasingly targeting Russian territory in response to ongoing Russian missile and drone strikes across Ukrainian cities and infrastructure. Both sides have continued to intensify operations in recent months, despite repeated international calls for de-escalation.

As the conflict enters another year of heavy fighting, civilian populations in border regions remain among the most vulnerable, facing repeated disruptions, casualties and damage to essential infrastructure as the war shows no signs of slowing.
