Rubio India Visit Strengthens Quad Cooperation And US–India Ties: Expert

Rubio’s India visit seen as strengthening Quad cooperation and Indo-Pacific strategy.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s recent four-day visit to India has been viewed by experts as a strategic move aimed at strengthening Quad cooperation and reaffirming Washington’s focus on the Indo-Pacific region. Analysts and industry leaders told IANS that the visit underscored continued US commitment to deepening ties with India amid evolving geopolitical dynamics.

Rubio, who made his first official visit to India in his current role, held high-level discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, and National Security Adviser Ajit Doval. He also participated in the Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, which brought together the United States, India, Japan, and Australia to review ongoing regional cooperation and security initiatives.

Experts noted that the visit highlighted growing convergence between India and the United States in areas such as defence, technology, and regional security. Dr Vivek Lall, Chief Executive of General Atomics Global Corporation, described the engagement as timely and significant, stating that both countries are now operating at an “inflection point” in their strategic relationship. He pointed to expanding defence cooperation and joint military exercises as key pillars of the partnership.

Lall also emphasized the renewed momentum within the Quad framework, saying the grouping is moving toward more concrete outcomes. He highlighted areas such as surveillance coordination, shared maritime awareness, and broader security cooperation as essential components of the alliance. According to him, these developments reflect a deeper level of operational alignment among member countries.

Mukesh Aghi, President and CEO of the US-India Strategic and Partnership Forum (USISPF), said Rubio’s visit reinforced the Indo-Pacific’s central role in US foreign policy. He noted that Quad cooperation is evolving beyond diplomatic engagement into structured collaboration on critical minerals, energy security, resilient supply chains, and emerging technologies. Aghi added that these initiatives could significantly boost private-sector participation and economic integration in the region.

Experts including Aparna Pande of the Hudson Institute described the visit as both symbolic and substantive, highlighting its importance in reassuring India of its strategic relevance to Washington. She noted that India hosting key Quad meetings reflected its growing leadership role within the grouping. The visit is widely seen as part of broader efforts to strengthen a rules-based order in the Indo-Pacific, with increasing emphasis on defence, trade, and technological cooperation among Quad members.
