RSF Drone Strike Kills 30 at Shelter in Sudan’s El-Fasher, City Trapped in Crisis

RSF drone strike kills at least 30 at a displacement shelter in Sudan’s El-Fasher amid ongoing conflict.

A drone strike by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) killed at least 30 people at the Dar al-Arqam displacement center, located on university grounds in El-Fasher, the last state capital in Sudan’s Darfur region not under RSF control. The local resistance committee labeled the attack a “massacre,” reporting that bodies remain trapped in underground shelters and urging international intervention to address the escalating violence.

El-Fasher, home to 400,000 trapped civilians, has been under an 18-month RSF siege, transforming the city into what activists describe as an “open-air morgue.” The ongoing conflict between the RSF and Sudan’s regular army, which began in April 2023, has killed tens of thousands, displaced millions, and driven nearly 25 million into acute hunger. The city’s soup kitchens have largely shut down due to food shortages, with even animal feed—used as a survival staple—becoming scarce and prohibitively expensive.

The resistance committees, local activist groups that coordinate aid and document atrocities, highlighted the dire humanitarian crisis in El-Fasher, where essential supplies have dwindled. The drone strike marks a new escalation in the RSF’s campaign to seize the strategic city, intensifying fears for the safety of civilians caught in the crossfire.
