Rider Jumps Clear As Water Tanker Crushes Bike On Bengaluru’s Broken Road

Biker escapes as tanker crushes motorcycle.

A Bengaluru man had a narrow escape after his motorcycle fell into a rainwater-filled pothole near Gunjur, causing him to lose control before a tanker approaching from behind ran over the bike. The incident, which was captured on video, highlights the dangers posed by waterlogged and poorly visible potholes on roads in the city during the monsoon. The rider, identified as Saurabh, works with Walmart in Bengaluru and was travelling through the waterlogged stretch when the motorcycle suddenly dropped into the pothole.

According to the account of the incident, Saurabh was riding through the rainwater-covered section when his motorcycle hit the pothole. Because the pothole was filled with water, it was difficult to determine its depth or see the damaged portion of the road ahead. The sudden impact caused him to lose control of the motorcycle and fall from his vehicle. A tanker was travelling behind him at the time, leaving the rider in an extremely dangerous position on the road.

As Saurabh lost control, the tanker appeared to fail to notice the fallen rider and motorcycle in its path. The heavy vehicle subsequently ran over the motorcycle. The incident could have resulted in a far more serious accident had the rider remained close to his bike. However, Saurabh managed to let go of the motorcycle and move away from the tanker’s path moments before it reached him, narrowly avoiding being run over himself.

The incident left Saurabh visibly shaken, particularly after the tanker initially continued driving away from the spot. The video shows the potentially fatal sequence of events, beginning with the motorcycle entering the waterlogged pothole and ending with the tanker passing over the fallen bike. While the rider escaped physical injury in the reported incident, the crash demonstrates how a combination of road damage, standing rainwater and heavy traffic can create serious risks for motorists.

Waterlogging can make existing potholes difficult for motorists to identify, especially for two-wheeler riders who have less protection in the event of a fall. A motorcycle suddenly dropping into a pothole can cause the rider to lose balance within seconds, while vehicles travelling behind may have little time to react. The presence of heavy vehicles such as tankers can further increase the danger because of their size, weight and limited visibility around the vehicle.

The incident near Gunjur also adds to concerns over road conditions in Bengaluru during periods of heavy rain. Potholes covered by accumulated water can remain difficult to detect until a vehicle enters them, creating hazards for commuters travelling through affected stretches. For two-wheeler riders, such conditions can be particularly dangerous because even a relatively sudden loss of control can result in a fall directly into the path of approaching traffic.

Saurabh’s narrow escape was ultimately made possible by his decision to move away from the motorcycle as the tanker approached. The bike was run over, but he avoided suffering the same fate. The incident has once again drawn attention to the risks created when potholes become submerged in rainwater and remain difficult to see. It also underscores the need for motorists to exercise caution on waterlogged roads and for damaged stretches to be identified and repaired promptly to prevent potentially fatal accidents.
