Red Fort Gets Massive Security Overhaul Ahead Of Independence Day Celebrations

Security arrangements have been significantly stepped up around the Red Fort in New Delhi ahead of the Independence Day celebrations on August 15, with around 15,000 to 20,000 personnel from multiple security agencies expected to be deployed in and around the historic monument. The Delhi Police has been preparing for the annual national event for several days, with a combination of personnel deployment, surveillance technology and coordinated security measures planned to ensure the safety of dignitaries, visitors and others attending the celebrations.

For the first time, the Delhi Police will use the Abhigyaan app along with its Facial Recognition System as part of the security arrangements at the Red Fort. The technology is intended to strengthen surveillance in crowded areas and assist security personnel in identifying people who may have criminal backgrounds. The deployment of the system is part of a broader effort to use technology alongside conventional policing during an event that draws large crowds and requires heightened security.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) North Raja Banthia said preparations for the security arrangements had been underway for several days. Personnel from the Delhi Police, paramilitary forces, the National Security Guard (NSG) and other security agencies will be involved in the operation. The multi-agency deployment is expected to provide security coverage across the Red Fort complex and surrounding areas, while also helping authorities manage crowds and respond to any security concerns that may arise during the celebrations.

The use of the Abhigyaan app and facial-recognition technology will complement the physical deployment of thousands of security personnel.
