Actor Raveena Tandon has appealed to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann following the state government’s recent decision to begin a drive aimed at removing stray dogs from public spaces and relocating them to shelters, with provisions reportedly including euthanasia for animals deemed dangerous, in line with a Supreme Court order.
The initiative, launched by the Punjab government on Friday, comes amid heightened public debate over stray animal management and urban safety. The move has triggered discussions among animal welfare groups, public figures, and citizens, particularly regarding the balance between human safety and animal rights.
In response, Raveena Tandon shared a detailed note on Instagram on Saturday, addressing Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann directly. In her appeal, she urged authorities to ensure that the implementation of the court’s directive remains “humane and balanced,” stressing the importance of compassion in dealing with stray animals. She emphasised that structured approaches such as sterilisation, vaccination, the establishment of proper shelters, and rehabilitation programs could offer long-term and sustainable solutions.

The actor further stated that Punjab has an opportunity to set an example for the rest of the country by adopting a responsible yet compassionate model for stray animal management. Raveena also reflected on the broader ethical dimension of the issue, noting that how society treats voiceless animals reflects its values. Her remarks come amid growing nationwide attention on stray animal policies, with various stakeholders advocating for non-lethal control measures alongside regulatory enforcement to manage urban stray populations effectively.
