Rajnandgaon Crash: Three Friends Dead After Birthday Drive

Car carrying five men crashed into culvert near Rajnandgaon highway.

Three men were killed and two others were seriously injured after the car they were travelling in crashed into a culvert on a national highway near Tedesara Basti in Chhattisgarh’s Rajnandgaon district early Monday. The accident took place around 1.30 am when the five friends were travelling from Durg towards Rajnandgaon to have dinner at a roadside eatery. The crash left the vehicle severely damaged and resulted in the deaths of three occupants.

The deceased have been identified as Abhishek Singh, 35, Toshan Tiwari, 26, and Prashant Dase, 36. According to police, Abhishek was driving the car when it crashed near a drain. Abhishek worked as an electrical and civil government contractor for the Chhattisgarh government. The force of the impact was severe, and the vehicle was left mangled after hitting the culvert. Abhishek and Toshan died at the scene, while Prashant was critically injured and taken to a government hospital.

Prashant later succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment, taking the death toll from the crash to three. The other two passengers, identified as Suraj Pandey and Chintu, sustained injuries and are undergoing treatment. The accident occurred during a late-night journey that began after the friends had gathered to celebrate Abhishek’s birthday. The group was travelling towards Rajnandgaon when the car crashed near the drain along the national highway.

According to Abhishek’s relatives, he had already celebrated his birthday with his family during the day before going out with his friends later at night. The friends were travelling to have dinner at a dhaba when the accident occurred. Police said the vehicle was being driven by Abhishek at the time of the crash. The circumstances of the journey and the events immediately preceding the accident are being examined as part of the investigation.

Speeding has been cited in various reports as a possible factor behind the accident. However, members of the grieving families have offered a different possibility, saying the road narrowed at the spot where the crash occurred and that this may have made it difficult for the driver to manoeuvre the vehicle. The available information does not establish the exact cause of the crash, and police are investigating the circumstances, including the condition of the road and the manner in which the vehicle was being driven.

Police have registered a case and begun an investigation into the accident. The bodies of Abhishek, Toshan and Prashant were handed over to their families after post-mortem examinations. Meanwhile, Suraj and Chintu are receiving treatment for their injuries. Investigators are expected to establish the circumstances that led to the car leaving the road and crashing into the culvert as they examine the accident site and other available evidence.
