Qatar Says US-Iran Negotiations Need More Time Amid Ongoing Diplomacy
Qatar says US-Iran talks need more time.
Qatar has said that ongoing US-Iran negotiations, which are being mediated by Pakistan, require additional time to reach a diplomatic breakthrough, as tensions continue to fluctuate following renewed threats of military escalation and shifting signals from Washington.Speaking at a press briefing on Tuesday, Qatar’s foreign ministry spokesman Majed al-Ansari said Doha supports the mediation efforts led by Pakistan, describing them as a serious attempt to bring all parties together and de-escalate regional tensions.
He added that the process remains complex and cannot be concluded in a short timeframe. The statement comes a day after US President Donald Trump indicated that he had prepared a military strike plan for the following day, following Iran’s rejection of proposed outlines of a potential agreement. However, Trump later said he had suspended the planned action after appeals from regional leaders, including those from Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates, urging that diplomatic efforts be given more time.
According to Qatari officials, the priority remains preventing further escalation in a region already under significant geopolitical strain. Al-Ansari said the objective is to protect regional populations from bearing the consequences of any widening conflict, although he declined to comment on the specifics of Trump’s statements or provide an assessment of the likelihood of a deal.

The developments reflect ongoing uncertainty in US-Iran relations, where negotiations have repeatedly stalled amid disagreements over sanctions, nuclear commitments, and regional security concerns. Mediators have continued to engage multiple stakeholders in an effort to narrow differences, but no formal breakthrough has yet been announced.
While diplomatic channels remain active, officials involved in the process have acknowledged that progress is incremental, with further rounds of discussions expected as regional and international actors continue to push for de-escalation.
