Putin Open to Ukraine Peace Talks, But Demands Goals Met
Kremlin signals peace interest, but Putin prioritizes Russia’s objectives.
Russian President Vladimir Putin is prepared to negotiate a peace settlement for Ukraine, but only if Russia’s objectives are achieved, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated in a Sunday interview on state television.
Speaking to reporter Pavel Zarubin, Peskov emphasized Putin’s desire to resolve the Ukraine conflict swiftly, describing it as a “long and challenging process.” He reiterated, “The main thing for us is to achieve our goals. Our goals are clear.”
Peskov also addressed U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent rhetoric, noting its “harsh” tone but highlighting Trump’s commitment to pursuing a peace deal. On Monday, Trump escalated pressure on Russia, announcing new military aid for Ukraine, including Patriot missile systems, and issuing a 50-day ultimatum for a ceasefire, threatening additional sanctions if unmet.
