Putin Envoy Offered Iran Intel Deal to Trump Team? Russia Denies Report

Moscow denies Politico's claim about a secret US-Russia intelligence trade.

Russia has denied media reports suggesting that President Vladimir Putin was willing to halt intelligence-sharing with Iran in exchange for the United States cutting off support to Ukraine. The claim, first reported by Politico, alleged that such a proposal was discussed during recent diplomatic engagements, but Moscow has dismissed the report as inaccurate and misleading.

According to the report, Putin’s envoy Kirill Dmitriev allegedly raised the idea during a meeting with senior US representatives, including Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, in Miami. The proposal reportedly suggested that Russia would stop sharing intelligence with Iran if Washington ceased providing intelligence assistance to Ukraine, which has been ongoing since the start of the conflict in 2022.

However, Dmitriev publicly rejected the claims, calling the report “fake” in a statement on social media. Russian authorities have consistently denied any such negotiations or conditional offers, maintaining that reports of backchannel deals involving intelligence-sharing are unfounded. The Kremlin has not indicated any shift in its strategic alignment or diplomatic posture regarding Iran or the ongoing Ukraine conflict.

The controversy comes amid heightened scrutiny over Russia’s alleged ties with Iran during broader geopolitical tensions. Earlier this month, The Washington Post reported that Moscow had shared sensitive intelligence with Tehran, including information about US military assets in the Middle East. Russia denied those claims as well, reiterating that it has not engaged in such activities.

The issue has also drawn reactions from US officials and lawmakers. Republican representative Anna Paulina Luna criticised the Politico report, calling the outlet a “mouthpiece for the pro-war machine in Ukraine” and urging the public to disregard the claims. Meanwhile, the White House indicated that President Donald Trump would be displeased if any intelligence-sharing between Russia and Iran were confirmed.

As geopolitical tensions continue to evolve, the relationship between Russia and Iran remains under close watch, particularly in the context of the ongoing war in Ukraine and conflicts in the Middle East. While Russia has acknowledged providing humanitarian aid in certain situations, it has avoided detailed public disclosures about its broader strategic engagements, leaving room for continued speculation and scrutiny.
