Punjab Police Complete 200 Days of Anti-Gang Operation, Over 1 Lakh Raids

Punjab Police has completed 200 days of its Gangstran Te Vaar campaign, conducting 1,09,087 raids across the state and arresting 1,532 proclaimed offenders, according to figures released by the department. The campaign has focused on organised criminal networks through intelligence-led investigations, targeted enforcement and coordination with agencies in India and abroad.

Police said action was initiated against 58,212 individuals during the operation, including 853 alleged gangsters and their associates and 57,359 wanted criminals. As part of preventive policing, authorities detained 28,201 people, while another 18,514 were verified and released. Overall police action covered 1,04,927 individuals, including 2,959 alleged gangsters and associates.

Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said the campaign was designed to dismantle the wider infrastructure supporting organised crime instead of focusing only on individual arrests. Investigations have examined financial flows, logistics, communication systems, associates and foreign links. Police have also coordinated with neighbouring states and central investigation and intelligence agencies.

During the operation, police reported recovering 990 illegal firearms, 242 sharp-edged weapons, 2,739 rounds of ammunition, 315 magazines, 2.5 kilograms of explosives and 15 hand grenades. Authorities also seized 774.38 kilograms of heroin, 480.23 kilograms of opium, 7,266.26 kilograms of poppy husk and 26,91,455 intoxicant tablets.

Police said they recovered drug money worth Rs 1.73 crore, an additional Rs 1.80 crore in cash and 413.85 grams of gold. The operation also resulted in the seizure of 4,978 mobile phones and the impounding of 1,781 vehicles and 61 drones. Authorities recovered or destroyed 64,402.77 litres of illicit liquor, along with 34,840 bottles and 926 boxes.

Two fugitive alleged gangsters, Bhuvnesh Chopra, also known as Ashish Chopra, and Jobanjit Singh, also known as Joban Billa, were deported from Central Asia and Jakarta, respectively. Police have introduced an anonymous tipline, 93946-93946, and a reward policy for credible information. The campaign will continue to target financial, logistical, interstate and international links associated with organised crime.
