Priyanka Chaturvedi Demands Action on Grok AI Misuse Targeting Women's Photos

Shiv Sena MP Priyanka Chaturvedi writes to IT Minister over misuse of Grok AI to sexualise women's images on X.

Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi has raised serious concerns over the misuse of artificial intelligence tools on social media platforms, particularly X, warning that women’s privacy is increasingly under threat. In a letter to Union Minister for Electronics and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw, she highlighted how AI features such as Grok are being exploited to create and circulate objectionable content using fake accounts.

Chaturvedi described the practice as “unacceptable and a gross misuse of an AI function,” explaining that perpetrators use prompts to AI tools to sexualize images of women without their consent. She stressed that the misuse is not confined to photos shared by others but also targets women who post their own images, creating a pervasive threat to personal privacy.

The MP called out the AI system itself for enabling such behaviour, stating that it complies with harmful prompts, further violating women’s rights and ethical boundaries. She described these acts as not only unethical but also criminal, highlighting the urgent need for regulatory intervention to prevent further abuse.

Chaturvedi urged the government to hold social media platforms accountable and implement safeguards in AI tools to protect women online. She emphasized that unchecked AI misuse across major tech platforms can silence women and push them out of digital spaces, threatening their participation and safety on social media.

In her letter, the MP stressed that India cannot remain a bystander to the violation of women’s dignity under the guise of innovation. She warned that if left unaddressed, such practices risk normalizing the demeaning treatment of women online and undermining their confidence to engage in public digital spaces.

While recognizing the benefits of artificial intelligence, Chaturvedi urged urgent action to curb misuse. She called on the Ministry of Electronics and IT to work with big tech companies to ensure AI tools are safe and ethical, emphasizing that women’s safety and digital rights must be prioritized over technological experimentation.
