President Droupadi Murmu Arrives In Moldova For First Visit By Indian President
Murmu begins historic presidential visit to strengthen India-Moldova ties.
President Droupadi Murmu arrived in Chisinau on Monday, beginning her three-nation State visit to Moldova, North Macedonia and Romania. The visit marks a historic milestone as it is the first-ever visit by an Indian President to Moldova. She was warmly welcomed at Chisinau International Airport by Moldova’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi.
The President’s visit to Moldova has been undertaken at the invitation of Moldovan President Maia Sandu. During her stay, President Murmu is scheduled to hold high-level discussions with President Sandu and meet Moldova’s Parliament President Igor Grosu. She will also interact with members of the Moldova-India Parliamentary Friendship Group, participate in a Business Forum and engage with members of the Indian community.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said the visit represents an important step in strengthening relations between India and Moldova. The two countries share friendly ties, and the visit is expected to provide opportunities to expand cooperation in sectors including agriculture, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, information technology, education and other areas of mutual interest.

MEA Secretary (West) Sibi George said the visit would provide an opportunity to review the full range of bilateral relations and explore ways to transform existing political goodwill into a broader partnership. He highlighted potential areas of cooperation such as trade and investment, digital technologies, innovation, renewable energy, healthcare, education, agriculture, culture and connectivity.
Officials said President Murmu’s engagements are aimed at promoting stronger business-to-business links and increasing opportunities for trade and investment between the two nations. The visit comes as India continues efforts to deepen partnerships with European countries through diplomatic, economic and cultural cooperation.
Following her Moldova visit, President Murmu will travel to North Macedonia and Romania as part of her three-nation tour. The high-level engagements are expected to focus on strengthening bilateral relations, exploring new areas of collaboration and enhancing India’s diplomatic outreach in the region.
