Pope Leo Advises US Youth: Use AI Wisely, Don’t Let It Do Your Homework
Pope Leo urges young Americans to use artificial intelligence responsibly and not rely on it to complete their homework.
Pope Leo, the first US-born pope, addressed approximately 15,000 young people at a national Catholic youth conference in Indianapolis via a live video from the Vatican. During the 40-minute interaction, he encouraged the youth to use artificial intelligence as a helpful learning tool but warned against using it to do their homework. He emphasized that responsible use of AI means leveraging it to foster personal growth rather than replace effort.
In the session, Pope Leo also answered questions related to Catholic faith and shared advice on social matters such as making friends in school. Highlighting the importance of thoughtful engagement, he reminded the youth that technology is becoming a defining feature of their time and should be harnessed wisely to support learning and development.
The pope also briefly touched upon politics, urging young Christians to avoid framing their faith through political lenses. He cited Jesus’ message of building bridges instead of walls and cautioned against using political categories to speak about the Church, stressing that the Church belongs to no political party but helps form a conscience rooted in wisdom and love.
