Poland Supports India's Position On West Asia Conflict Amid Regional Tensions
Poland endorses India's balanced stance on West Asia.
Poland has expressed support for India's position on the escalating conflict in West Asia, with Polish Secretary of State and Deputy Foreign Minister Wladyslaw Teofil Bartoszewski describing New Delhi's approach as the "right position" and emphasising that the crisis should be resolved through diplomacy rather than prolonged military confrontation. Speaking in New Delhi on Monday, Bartoszewski also stressed the importance of keeping the Strait of Hormuz open to international shipping, calling uninterrupted maritime access vital for global trade and energy security.
In an interaction with ANI, the Polish minister said India's balanced approach carries considerable weight because of its status as one of the world's largest economies and a major importer of oil and natural gas from the Gulf region. He noted that India's dependence on stable energy supplies makes its emphasis on dialogue and de-escalation particularly significant at a time of heightened tensions in West Asia. "India's position is the right position because you are a big country, an important country, and you benefit from free access to goods, including oil, and you depend very much on the oil and gas from the Gulf," Bartoszewski said.
He added that Poland continues to maintain diplomatic contact with Iran and has consistently conveyed its preference for a negotiated settlement to the ongoing conflict. The Polish deputy foreign minister said Warsaw's approach aligns closely with that of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, focusing on diplomatic engagement despite the challenging circumstances. "We informed them that our preferred solution is a diplomatic one. So we do the same thing as Prime Minister Modi. We try to talk reason, but to moderate effect, I would say," he remarked, acknowledging the limited success of international efforts to reduce hostilities so far.

Bartoszewski also underlined the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's busiest maritime chokepoints through which a significant share of global crude oil and liquefied natural gas supplies pass. He said international waterways must remain open to commercial shipping and stressed that vessels should be allowed to transit freely without restrictions or additional tolls, warning that disruptions could have serious consequences for global energy markets and international trade.
The remarks come amid heightened tensions in the Gulf following recent military exchanges involving the United States and Iran, which have renewed concerns over the security of commercial shipping in the region. The Strait of Hormuz has remained at the centre of global attention because any disruption to traffic through the narrow waterway could affect energy supplies to major importing nations, including India. India has consistently called for restraint and dialogue in response to the escalating conflict, urging all parties to avoid further escalation while safeguarding the interests of civilian populations and maintaining stability in the region.
New Delhi has also closely monitored developments due to the presence of a large Indian diaspora in Gulf countries and the country's significant dependence on energy imports from the region. Poland's endorsement of India's position reflects broader international concern over the geopolitical and economic consequences of the conflict. As diplomatic efforts continue, both countries have reiterated that dialogue remains the most sustainable path to resolving the crisis while ensuring the uninterrupted flow of global trade and energy supplies through critical maritime routes such as the Strait of Hormuz.
