Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s aircraft was reportedly escorted by F-16 fighter jets as it entered UAE airspace on Friday, shortly after his arrival in Abu Dhabi, marking the first leg of his five-nation diplomatic tour. The clip of the escort was shared by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on social media, drawing attention to what it described as a reflection of deep strategic ties between India and the United Arab Emirates.
According to BJP IT Cell head Amit Malviya, the escort symbolised “trust and personal warmth” between the leadership of both nations. The video circulated online showed fighter jets accompanying the Prime Minister’s aircraft, although official confirmation and additional operational details of the escort were not immediately provided by UAE authorities.
PM Modi’s visit to the UAE comes at a time of heightened geopolitical uncertainty in West Asia, with ongoing tensions between Iran and the United States continuing to influence regional security and energy markets. The visit is part of a broader five-nation tour that also includes the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, and Italy.

Energy security is expected to be a central focus of discussions during the Abu Dhabi leg of the visit. The F-16 fighter jets involved in the reported escort are part of the UAE Air Force’s frontline fleet and have previously been deployed in multinational operations, including campaigns in the Middle East. The reported escort has been widely interpreted as a symbolic gesture highlighting the strategic and defence partnership between India and the UAE, though neither side has released an official operational statement on the specifics of the aerial support.
