PM Modi pushes for peace at SCO summit.

In a powerful appeal for peace, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged Russian President Vladimir Putin to work toward ending the ongoing Ukraine conflict as swiftly as possible during a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Tianjin on Monday, September 1, 2025. The high-stakes discussion underscored India’s growing role in advocating for global stability amid escalating tensions.

Addressing Putin in televised remarks, Modi emphasized the urgent need for peace, stating, “The call of humanity is to end the conflict as soon as possible and find ways to bring permanent peace to the region.” He expressed support for recent efforts to resolve the crisis and urged all parties to engage constructively to achieve lasting stability. Modi’s remarks come at a critical juncture, as the Ukraine conflict continues to destabilize global security and economies.

The meeting highlighted the deep ties between India and Russia, with Modi noting that the two nations have stood “shoulder-to-shoulder” even in challenging times. “Our close relations are vital for global peace, stability, and prosperity,” he said, reinforcing the strategic partnership that has weathered geopolitical storms.
