PM Modi To Visit Seychelles June 27-29 For National Day Celebrations

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to undertake a state visit to Seychelles from June 27 to June 29, during which he will participate in the country’s Golden Jubilee celebrations of its National Day. The visit comes at the invitation of Seychelles President Patrick Herminie and is expected to focus on strengthening bilateral ties between the two nations. According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the trip underscores the continued importance of India–Seychelles relations in the Indian Ocean region.
The MEA stated that Prime Minister Modi will attend the National Day celebrations as the Guest of Honour. The event marks 50 years of Seychelles’ independence celebrations, making it a significant diplomatic occasion for both countries. During the visit, the Prime Minister is also expected to take part in official ceremonial engagements linked to the anniversary celebrations. The invitation reflects the long-standing tradition of high-level participation in each other’s national milestones.
As part of the ceremonial involvement, a contingent of the Indian armed forces will participate in the celebrations in Seychelles. In addition, two Indian Navy ships will also be present, highlighting maritime cooperation between the two countries. The MEA noted that this participation reflects India’s commitment to regional security and friendship with its maritime neighbours in the Indian Ocean.

During the visit, Prime Minister Modi will hold bilateral talks with President Patrick Herminie to review the full range of cooperation between India and Seychelles. Discussions are expected to cover regional and international issues of mutual interest. The Prime Minister is also scheduled to address the Seychelles National Assembly and interact with members of the Indian community residing in the island nation.
India and Seychelles share a historically close relationship rooted in cultural and people-to-people ties, strengthened over decades of diplomatic engagement. Seychelles holds strategic importance in India’s maritime vision, including its Vision MAHASAGAR framework focused on regional security and growth. Prime Minister Modi last visited Seychelles in 2015, and this upcoming trip is expected to further reinforce the partnership across multiple sectors, including defence, trade, and regional cooperation.
