PM Modi To Visit Andhra Pradesh And Karnataka On August 1: Check What's On Agenda

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka on August 1, during which he will inaugurate major infrastructure projects and launch new initiatives aimed at strengthening connectivity and renewable energy infrastructure. A key highlight of the visit will be the inauguration of the Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport at Bhogapuram in Andhra Pradesh's Vizianagaram district, along with the launch of multiple power transmission projects to support the state's clean energy ambitions.

The Bhogapuram International Airport, named after freedom fighter Alluri Sitarama Raju, has been developed as a greenfield airport under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. Spread across nearly 2,700 acres and built at an estimated cost of around Rs 5,600 crore, the airport is among India's fastest-completed greenfield aviation projects. It has an initial annual passenger handling capacity of six million, with a long-term expansion plan to accommodate up to 40 million passengers each year.

Apart from inaugurating the airport, the Prime Minister will launch and lay the foundation stone for several power transmission projects designed to strengthen Andhra Pradesh's renewable energy network. These include the first phase of the transmission system for the 4.5 GW Kurnool-IV Renewable Energy Zone, a project worth around Rs 5,550 crore being implemented by POWERGRID through a special purpose vehicle. He will also inaugurate transmission projects for the Kurnool wind and solar energy zones, developed at a cost of around Rs 3,550 crore, along with another transmission scheme worth more than Rs 820 crore for the solar energy zones in Ananthapuram and Kurnool.

The Andhra Pradesh government expects the Bhogapuram airport to significantly improve connectivity across North Andhra while promoting tourism, trade, logistics and industrial growth. The airport is also expected to reduce congestion at existing aviation facilities and serve as a major gateway for passengers and cargo operations in the region. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has described the project as a key driver of economic development and employment generation.

Following his engagements in Andhra Pradesh, Prime Minister Modi will also visit Karnataka as part of his August 1 itinerary, where he is expected to participate in official programmes and development-related events. The visit underscores the Centre's focus on expanding transport infrastructure and strengthening renewable energy networks to support regional economic growth and improve connectivity across southern India.
