PM Modi to Survey Uttarakhand’s Flood-Hit Regions on Thursday

Aerial tour, high-level meeting set for Thursday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to conduct an aerial survey of Uttarakhand’s flood-ravaged regions on Thursday, September 11, 2025, followed by a high-level meeting to assess the ongoing crisis, officials announced on September 10. The visit comes on the heels of Modi’s tour of flood-hit Punjab and Himachal Pradesh, underscoring the Centre’s focus on addressing the devastation caused by relentless monsoon rains across northern India.

Scheduled for 4:15 p.m., the aerial survey will cover severely affected areas, including Dharali-Harsil in Uttarkashi, Tharali in Chamoli, Sainji in Pauri, and Kapkot in Bageshwar, which have been battered by heavy rains, cloudbursts, and landslides. Official estimates report a grim toll since April 2025: 81 lives lost, 114 injured, and 94 people missing due to natural disasters in the state. The scale of destruction has prompted urgent action from both state and central governments.

At 5 p.m., Modi will chair a high-level review meeting to evaluate relief efforts and coordinate further assistance. The visit follows a recent assessment by an inter-ministerial team from the Centre, which inspected the affected areas to gauge the extent of the damage and guide rehabilitation measures.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, overseeing preparations at Jollygrant Airport, expressed gratitude for Modi’s attention to the state. “The prime minister’s special attachment to Uttarakhand has ensured constant support during this crisis,” Dhami said, adding that Modi’s visit will bolster ongoing relief operations. He instructed officials to finalize all arrangements to ensure a seamless visit.

The floods have left communities grappling with destroyed homes, disrupted infrastructure, and shattered livelihoods, particularly in hilly regions prone to landslides. Modi’s visit is expected to expedite relief measures, including financial aid and reconstruction efforts, as the state battles one of its worst monsoon seasons in recent years. With the Centre’s backing, Uttarakhand aims to rebuild and strengthen its disaster response mechanisms to mitigate future crises.
