PM Modi to Launch Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana in Bihar
75 lakh Bihar women to gain financial empowerment.
In a landmark move to empower women ahead of Bihar’s upcoming assembly elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually launch the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana on Friday, transferring ₹10,000 directly to the bank accounts of 75 lakh women across the state. The ₹7,500-crore initiative, spearheaded by Bihar’s NDA government under Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, aims to foster economic independence and self-employment among women by providing financial support for livelihood activities of their choosing.
The scheme, described as a game-changer for women’s empowerment, will offer an initial grant of ₹10,000 to one woman per family through direct benefit transfer, with the potential for additional funding of up to ₹2 lakh in later phases to scale up entrepreneurial ventures. “This is a historic step toward making Bihar’s daughters and sisters self-reliant,” said Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary in a post on X, emphasizing the scheme’s role in promoting social and economic upliftment. The launch, streamed live from Delhi with Nitish Kumar and other state leaders joining via video conference from Patna, underscores the government’s commitment to gender-focused development.
Officials highlight that the program is designed to provide women with the freedom to pursue diverse income-generating activities, from small-scale businesses to agricultural ventures, tailored to their skills and interests. By prioritizing financial inclusion, the scheme aims to address systemic barriers that have historically limited women’s access to economic opportunities in Bihar, one of India’s most populous states. The initiative also aligns with the NDA’s broader agenda to strengthen its voter base among women, a key demographic, as the state gears up for crucial polls.

As Bihar’s women prepare to receive this financial lifeline, the launch marks a pivotal moment in the state’s journey toward gender equity and economic resilience.
