Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Thursday, extending wishes for a swift recovery following Kharge’s recent medical procedure. The 83-year-old leader underwent a pacemaker implant at M S Ramaiah Hospital in Bengaluru on Wednesday, after being admitted the previous day. In a post on social media platform X, Modi expressed his concern and support, stating, “Spoke to Kharge Ji. Enquired about his health and wished him a speedy recovery. Praying for his continued well-being and long life.” The gesture reflects a moment of bipartisan goodwill amid India’s often polarised political landscape, with the prime minister acknowledging Kharge’s role as a veteran leader and the Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha.

Mallikarjun Kharge, a prominent Congress figure from Karnataka, has been a key voice in national politics, leading the party since October 2022. His health has drawn attention given his active role in parliamentary debates and party strategy ahead of crucial state and national elections.
