PM Modi, PM Albanese Announce New India-Australia Education and Skills Initiatives

PM Modi, PM Albanese announce new India-Australia education and skills initiatives.

India and Australia have announced a series of initiatives to strengthen cooperation in education, skills development, research and vocational training during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Australia. Modi said Australia remains one of the most preferred destinations for Indian students and noted that Australian universities opening campuses in India had added a new dimension to the knowledge partnership between the two countries.

Addressing a joint press conference with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on Thursday, Modi said both countries would continue working to increase exchanges involving students, professionals and tourists. The growing presence of Australian universities in India is expected to provide students with greater access to international education while also strengthening academic collaboration between institutions in the two countries.

Albanese said relations between Australia and India were stronger than ever and had expanded across several important areas. He said the partnership now covered defence, trade, investment, energy, education and technology, with both countries working together to support peace and prosperity in the region. He also highlighted the importance of businesses, universities and people-to-people connections in shaping the next phase of bilateral cooperation.

The Australian prime minister said the strong relationship between the people of the two countries had contributed to several business success stories. He added that Australia would continue working with business leaders and universities to deepen economic ties with India, create jobs and make greater use of future trade and investment opportunities. Education and professional exchanges are expected to remain important parts of this broader economic relationship.

Among the key outcomes of Modi’s visit was a Memorandum of Understanding between India’s Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and the Technical and Further Education system of the Government of Western Australia. The agreement will establish a Centre of Excellence in Mining and Mining Equipment, Technology and Services, aimed at strengthening vocational education and developing specialised skills linked to the mining sector.

The latest initiatives reflect the expanding scope of the India-Australia partnership beyond traditional diplomatic and trade relations. Greater cooperation between universities, vocational institutions, researchers and businesses is expected to create new opportunities for students and professionals in both countries. The two governments have indicated that education, technology, skills development and people-to-people exchanges will remain central to strengthening their long-term bilateral relationship.
