PM Modi Meets Swedish PM Kristersson To Discuss Trade, Defence, Technology Cooperation
PM Modi meets Swedish PM Kristersson to enhance trade, technology, and defence cooperation with Europe.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Sweden on Sunday, May 17, 2026, to hold bilateral talks with Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson as part of his ongoing five-nation tour. This marks the third leg of the tour, which has so far included visits to the Netherlands, where India and the host country elevated their ties to a strategic partnership.
During the visit, PM Modi is scheduled to engage in delegation-level discussions with his Swedish counterpart, focusing on strengthening cooperation across trade, technology, and defence sectors. The talks aim to deepen bilateral ties and explore new avenues for collaboration between India and Sweden.
In addition to official meetings, Modi will interact with members of the European Round Table for Industry, a forum comprising leading CEOs from across Europe. The engagement is intended to identify opportunities to boost trade, investment, and technological collaboration between Indian and European businesses.

The Indian Ambassador to Sweden, Anurag Bhushan, noted that the discussions would also explore long-term strategic partnerships, particularly in emerging technologies and sustainable development initiatives. Both sides are expected to deliberate on areas of mutual interest, including green energy, innovation, and industrial cooperation.
The visit follows Modi’s engagements in the Netherlands on May 16, where a series of agreements were signed to enhance bilateral cooperation. As part of that visit, Leiden University returned Chola-era plates to India, highlighting ongoing cultural and historical exchanges alongside economic and strategic cooperation.
PM Modi’s Sweden stop is seen as a continuation of India’s effort to strengthen relations with European nations while expanding trade, technology partnerships, and defence collaboration. Observers note that the meetings could pave the way for deeper India-Europe engagement in the coming years.
