PM Modi Meets Arunachal, Nagaland MPs Over Flood Situation
Centre assures flood relief support for Northeast.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday assured Members of Parliament from Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland that the Central government would provide all necessary assistance to tackle the flood situation affecting the two northeastern states. During a meeting at Parliament House in New Delhi, the MPs briefed the Prime Minister about the challenges caused by heavy rainfall, floods and landslides, following which Modi assured continued coordination with state governments for relief and restoration efforts.
Sharing details of the meeting on his official X account, Prime Minister Modi said that discussions were held on the flood situation in Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland. He said the Central government would continue working with the respective state administrations to address the difficulties faced by affected people and prayed for the safety and well-being of residents in the flood-hit regions.
The delegation of five MPs was led by Union Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju. The group included Tapir Gao and Tai Tagak from Arunachal Pradesh, along with S. Supongmeren Jamir and S. Phangnon Konyak from Nagaland. Rijiju later said that the Prime Minister had assured full assistance and directed authorities to ensure timely relief, restoration and support for people affected by the natural disaster. Except for Congress MP S. Supongmeren Jamir, the other members of the delegation belong to the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Arunachal Pradesh MP Tapir Gao expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for hearing the concerns of representatives from both states. He said the government had assured all possible support for providing relief and assistance to flood-affected communities. The meeting comes as both Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland continue to face the impact of heavy rains and floods that have damaged homes, infrastructure, agricultural land and crops, while also causing loss of lives.
Relief and rescue operations have been ongoing in several affected areas, with the Indian Air Force supporting evacuation efforts in landslide-hit regions of Nagaland. More than 300 stranded civilians have reportedly been evacuated, while essential supplies have been transported to remote areas cut off due to damaged roads. In Arunachal Pradesh, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Kiren Rijiju and Chief Minister Pema Khandu recently reviewed the situation through ground and aerial surveys and assured assistance for rebuilding homes and compensating losses related to crops, farmland and livestock.
The state governments have said they are working closely with the Centre to restore normalcy and develop long-term solutions to manage future natural disasters. Officials have stressed that immediate relief measures, infrastructure restoration and scientific approaches to disaster management will remain key priorities as recovery efforts continue across the flood-affected northeastern states.
