PM Modi: India’s Democracy & Youth Power Global Growth
PM hails India’s skilled workforce at e-Vitara launch.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi championed India’s unique strengths—its vibrant democracy, youthful demography, and vast skilled workforce—during the launch of Maruti Suzuki’s first battery electric vehicle, the e-Vitara, at the Hansalpur facility in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. Speaking at the event, Modi emphasized that these attributes create a “win-win situation” for global partners, positioning India as a prime destination for investment and manufacturing. The made-in-India e-Vitara, set to be exported to over 100 countries including Japan, symbolizes the deepening India-Japan partnership and global confidence in India’s capabilities.
Modi redefined ‘swadeshi’ as a model where investments, regardless of origin, empower Indian workers, stating, “Money can come from anywhere, but the work should be done by Indians.” He urged all states to seize this moment of global attention by competing in reforms, pro-development policies, and good governance. “Investors should be spoilt for choice, wondering which state to invest in,” he said, encouraging healthy competition to elevate India’s economic landscape. The event also saw the inauguration of a lithium-ion battery electrode plant by TDS Lithium-Ion Battery, a Suzuki-Toshiba-Denso joint venture, boosting India’s EV ecosystem.
The e-Vitara launch aligns with India’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative, leveraging the country’s 1.4 billion population, with over 50% under 35, and a workforce trained in cutting-edge technologies. Gujarat’s advanced infrastructure, including the Gati Shakti cargo terminal, supports Maruti’s export goals, with 3.32 lakh vehicles shipped in FY25. Modi’s call for state-level competition echoes recent policy successes, such as Tamil Nadu’s footwear export boom and Bihar’s industrial incentives, positioning India to capitalize on the global China Plus One strategy amid shifting trade dynamics.
