PM Modi Inaugurates Mizoram Railway Line, Flags Off Rajdhani Express

The PM launches the ₹8,070 crore Bairabi-Sairang rail project and new train services.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Aizawl, Mizoram, on Saturday to inaugurate the ₹8,070-crore Bairabi-Sairang railway line, a transformative project connecting landlocked Mizoram to India’s broader rail network. Landing at Lengpui Airport at 9:10 AM, Modi launched the railway and other development initiatives directly from the airport due to adverse weather conditions preventing his planned helicopter trip to Lammual Ground. Instead, he addressed a public gathering virtually, with Mizoram Governor V. K. Singh, Chief Minister Lalduhoma, and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw present at the venue.

The Bairabi-Sairang railway line, spanning 51.38 km, marks a significant step in boosting connectivity and economic growth in Mizoram. Modi also flagged off the first Rajdhani Express connecting Aizawl to Delhi, alongside two new train services linking Sairang to Guwahati and Kolkata. These initiatives aim to enhance regional accessibility and foster trade and tourism in the Northeast.

In addition, Modi laid the foundation stones for multiple projects, including a 45-km Aizawl Bypass road, a 30 TMTPA gas bottling plant, and several road infrastructure developments across Mizoram. He also inaugurated a residential school in Kawrthah, Mamit district, and an Eklavya Model Residential School at Tlangnuam in Aizawl, aimed at improving educational access for tribal communities.
