PM Modi Holds Roadshow in Sanand Ahead of Micron Semiconductor Facility Inauguration
PM Modi holds Sanand roadshow before inaugurating Micron’s Rs 22,516 crore semiconductor facility.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a public roadshow in Sanand on Saturday ahead of the inauguration of a major semiconductor manufacturing facility, drawing large crowds along the designated route. The Prime Minister arrived at Ahmedabad airport around 3:40 pm before proceeding to the Sanand GIDC area, where residents lined the streets to greet him.
Security arrangements were in place throughout the route, with traffic management measures implemented to ensure smooth movement for both participants and the public. Officials said the roadshow allowed citizens to witness the Prime Minister’s engagement firsthand while maintaining safety protocols.
Following the roadshow, Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the Semiconductor Assembly, Test, Marking and Packaging (ATMP) facility developed by Micron Semiconductor Technology India Private Limited. The plant represents an investment of Rs 22,516 crore and is expected to strengthen India’s position in the global semiconductor value chain.

The facility, which began groundwork in September 2023, is the first project approved under the India Semiconductor Mission. It will convert advanced semiconductor wafers into finished memory and storage products, including dynamic random-access memory (DRAM), NAND flash products, and solid-state drives, widely used in data centres, consumer electronics, and artificial intelligence systems.
Once fully operational, the plant will feature approximately 5,00,000 square feet of cleanroom space, making it one of the largest of its kind globally. Currently employing around 2,000 people, officials said direct employment is expected to rise to 5,000 as operations expand.
Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw and senior Micron executives attended the inauguration. The Prime Minister is expected to address the gathering, highlighting the facility’s role in advancing India’s technology and manufacturing ambitions and contributing to the country’s growing semiconductor ecosystem.
