PM Modi Highlights Substantive Benefits For India From SCO Summit Meetings

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed confidence that his meetings with leaders on the sidelines of the 26th Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Bishkek would bring substantive benefits for India. He described his visit to Kyrgyzstan as productive and thanked President Sadyr Zhaparov and the people of the country for their warmth and hospitality.

Modi attended the SCO Summit under Kyrgyzstan’s chairmanship and held a series of bilateral and informal meetings with leaders from participating countries. He highlighted discussions on strengthening bilateral relations, expanding cooperation across sectors and shaping a roadmap for the SCO as the organisation looks ahead to its next 25 years.

During his visit, Modi met Togo President Faure Essozimna Gnassingbe and exchanged views on various subjects. He also held talks with Mongolian President Ukhnaa Khurelsukh, with discussions covering a wide range of issues, including the longstanding friendship and bilateral ties between India and Mongolia.

Modi also interacted with Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev and held discussions with Tajikistan President Emomali Rahmon on strengthening cooperation across various sectors. His engagements further included a meeting with Lao President Thongloun Sisoulith, during which the two leaders discussed ways to strengthen bilateral linkages between India and Laos.

Before the summit, Modi interacted with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin and joined other SCO leaders for a group photograph. On Monday, he also held bilateral meetings with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Kyrgyzstan President Sadyr Zhaparov, Putin and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

During his stay in Bishkek, Modi paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at his memorial and interacted with members of the Indian community. He also attended the opening ceremony of the World Nomad Games and extended his best wishes to the participating Indian contingent. The SCO currently has 10 member states, along with observer states and dialogue partners, making it a significant platform for regional cooperation.
