PM Modi Hails Gen Z as India's Space Revolution Architects During Skyroot Launch
PM Modi praises Gen-Z's innovation as key to India's space and startup revolutions.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently spotlighted India’s Gen-Z as a powerhouse driving the country’s remarkable advances in both space technology and the broader startup revolution. Speaking at the inauguration of Skyroot Aerospace’s Infinity Campus in Hyderabad via video conferencing, Modi praised the younger generation’s creativity, positive attitude, and capability to transform challenges into opportunities. He emphasized that whenever India opens new frontiers, it is the youth—especially Gen-Z—who eagerly step forward, prioritizing national interests and innovation with unparalleled enthusiasm.
Highlighting the surge of private space ventures, Modi underlined that over 300 space startups now contribute dynamism to India’s space journey. He recounted how many of these enterprises started with just a few young individuals working from small rented spaces, driven by determination rather than resources. This entrepreneurial spirit, the Prime Minister observed, has triggered India’s private space revolution, ushering in new advances in rocket propulsion, composite materials, satellite platforms, and more—fields previously considered out of reach for startups.
Modi connected the success of the space startups with the broader startup boom sweeping India. Over the past decade, he said, young innovators have pioneered breakthrough solutions across diverse domains such as FinTech, AgriTech, HealthTech, ClimateTech, EduTech, and DefenceTech. He pointed out that India now boasts the world’s third-largest startup ecosystem, with more than 1.5 lakh registered startups including multiple unicorns. Remarkably, the startup wave has extended beyond major cities into small towns and rural areas, reflecting the expanding reach and confidence of India’s youth.

During the event, PM Modi also unveiled Skyroot Aerospace’s first orbital rocket, Vikram-I, capable of launching satellites into orbit. This landmark launch vehicle was conceived and developed at Skyroot’s new Infinity Campus, a cutting-edge facility spanning nearly two lakh square feet dedicated to designing, integrating, and testing launch vehicles. Founded by IIT alumni and former ISRO scientists Pawan Chandana and Bharath Dhaka, Skyroot has emerged as India’s leading private space company, making history last year by launching its sub-orbital rocket Vikram-S—the first by an Indian private firm.
Modi’s remarks paint an inspiring picture of India’s future, driven by the ingenuity and determination of its youth. The hope is that Gen-Z’s energy and innovation will continue to fuel the nation’s rise as a global technology and space leader.
