PM Modi Convenes Crucial BJP Strategy Meeting With Senior Cabinet Leaders

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday chaired a high-level review meeting with senior members of the Union Cabinet to discuss key domestic and international issues. Among those present were Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, Health Minister JP Nadda and Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal. While no official statement has been issued, the meeting is believed to have focused on recent political developments and evolving global challenges.
One of the key issues discussed is believed to have been the ongoing disruption in Parliament following the recent student protests at Delhi's Jantar Mantar. The demonstrations, organised under the banner of the Cockroach Janta Party and supported by several student unions, demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged irregularities in this year's national entrance examinations. The protest, which continued for nearly two months, ended last week after activist Sonam Wangchuk called off his indefinite fast and Pradhan resigned.
The meeting is also understood to have reviewed the impact of the continuing US-Iran hostilities and the ongoing war in Ukraine, both of which have significant implications for India's energy security and economic stability. The presence of Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, along with Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, suggests that the government discussed measures to safeguard fuel supplies, trade flows and the broader economy amid geopolitical uncertainties.

The gathering follows a series of similar review meetings convened by the Prime Minister in recent months. Earlier discussions had focused on the petroleum, power and fertiliser sectors as tensions in West Asia escalated. The government has consistently maintained that India has sufficient fuel reserves and domestic production capacity to manage any potential disruptions arising from international conflicts while ensuring stability in essential supplies.
No official details regarding the decisions taken during Thursday's meeting have been released by the government. Officials are expected to provide further information once the deliberations are formally communicated. The meeting underscores the Centre's continued focus on addressing both domestic political developments and international events that could have a bearing on India's economic and strategic interests.
