PM Modi congratulates Nitish Kumar on Rajya Sabha oath ceremony.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday congratulated Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar after he took oath as a Rajya Sabha member, praising him as one of the country’s most experienced political leaders and highlighting his long-standing contribution to governance and public service.
In a post shared on social media platform X, Modi said Kumar’s commitment to “good governance” has been widely recognised and appreciated. He added that Nitish Kumar has made a lasting contribution to the development of Bihar and expressed happiness at seeing him return to Parliament as a member of the Upper House.
The Prime Minister also said that Kumar’s extensive experience as a Member of Parliament and Union Minister in earlier years would further strengthen the functioning and dignity of Parliament. He extended his best wishes for Kumar’s new term in the Rajya Sabha and described his return to Parliament as a significant moment.

The oath ceremony was administered by Rajya Sabha Chairman C.P. Radhakrishnan in the presence of senior Union ministers, including J.P. Nadda, Nirmala Sitharaman, and Arjun Ram Meghwal. The brief ceremony marked Kumar’s formal entry into the Upper House.
With Nitish Kumar’s induction into the Rajya Sabha, political developments in Bihar are expected to see a transition, with the ruling National Democratic Alliance likely to choose a new Chief Minister on April 14. The move signals an important shift in the state’s political leadership structure.
On the same occasion, Modi also congratulated Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh for his nomination to the Upper House, praising his contributions to journalism and public life and expressing confidence in his continued role in parliamentary proceedings.
