PM Modi Arrives In Uzbekistan For Two-Day Visit To Strengthen Bilateral Ties
PM Modi begins Uzbekistan visit to deepen strategic and economic cooperation.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Tashkent on Saturday for a two-day official visit to Uzbekistan, with discussions aimed at strengthening India's strategic partnership with the Central Asian country. Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev received Modi at the airport, marking the Prime Minister's fourth visit to Uzbekistan. The visit is focused on expanding bilateral cooperation and deepening India's engagement with Central Asia.
During his stay, Modi will hold delegation-level talks with President Mirziyoyev, with trade and investment expected to be among the key areas of discussion. The two leaders will also review opportunities to strengthen cooperation in digital connectivity, defence and energy. The talks are aimed at advancing the broader strategic relationship between India and Uzbekistan and identifying areas for greater collaboration.
In his departure statement, Modi expressed his intention to discuss ways to further deepen cooperation across the priority sectors. He also referred to the shared visions of 'Viksit Bharat' and 'Yangi Uzbekistan', underlining the focus on development and closer bilateral engagement. The discussions are expected to provide an opportunity for both sides to assess existing cooperation and explore new areas of partnership.

The Prime Minister will also visit the Shastri Memorial and the Mahatma Gandhi Centre at the Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies. The visits are intended to highlight the historical, cultural and people-to-people links between India and Uzbekistan. Modi's programme in Tashkent therefore combines high-level diplomatic engagement with activities reflecting the longstanding cultural relationship between the two countries.
The Uzbekistan visit is the first leg of Modi's two-nation tour, after which he will travel to Bishkek in the Kyrgyz Republic. There, he will participate in the 26th Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit at the invitation of Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov. The wider visit is aimed at strengthening India's strategic partnerships across Central Asia while deepening its civilisational and cultural connect with the region.
