PM Modi Applauds Indian Diaspora’s Warm Welcome During New Zealand Visit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday expressed gratitude for the warm reception given to him by the Indian community in New Zealand, saying the affection and enthusiasm displayed by the diaspora deeply touched him. He said the welcome reflected the strong emotional and cultural connection that the Indian community continues to maintain with India.
Sharing pictures and videos of the reception on social media, Prime Minister Modi said the Indian community in New Zealand had waited four decades for the visit of an Indian Prime Minister. He praised their enthusiasm and said their bond with India remained strong despite living thousands of kilometres away.
Prime Minister Modi arrived in Auckland as part of the third and final leg of his three-nation tour. The visit marks the first official trip by an Indian Prime Minister to New Zealand in 40 years. New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon personally received Modi at the airport, highlighting the importance attached to the bilateral engagement.

As a special gesture, Auckland’s iconic Sky Tower was illuminated in the colours of the Indian tricolour to welcome the Indian leader. Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal shared images of the landmark and said the gesture symbolised the friendship and growing ties between India and New Zealand.
Upon his arrival, Prime Minister Modi described the visit as historic and said he looked forward to discussions with Prime Minister Luxon on strengthening India-New Zealand relations. He said the talks would cover the entire range of cooperation between the two countries. The Prime Minister also announced that he would address a community programme in Auckland during his visit. The trip is expected to focus on expanding cooperation in areas of mutual interest while further strengthening the people-to-people relationship between India and New Zealand.
