Pakistan's Open Warning to India! Will Bomb Any Structure Built on Indus River
Pakistan’s Asif Threatens Strikes on Indus Structures Amid Treaty Tensions
India's response of suspending the Indus Water Treaty to the Pahalgam Terror Attack seems to have set the cat among the pigeons. Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif warned India on Friday that any structure built on the Indus River violating the suspended Indus Waters Treaty (IWT) would be struck, labeling such actions as “Indian aggression.”
Speaking on Geo News, Asif said, “If they attempt to build any structure, we will strike it,” framing water diversion as a lethal act akin to “causing deaths by hunger and thirst.” He noted Pakistan’s intent to pursue diplomatic avenues, starting with IWT forums, while The Express Tribune reported plans for a formal notice against India’s unilateral treaty suspension.
The warning follows India’s suspension of the 1960 IWT after the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which killed 26 civilians, mostly tourists.

India, blaming Pakistan-linked groups like The Resistance Front, also closed the Attari-Wagah border and banned trade. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, granting armed forces “complete operational freedom” on April 29, vowed severe retribution.
Pakistan, denying involvement, conducted a 450-km Abdali missile test on Saturday, signaling military readiness. Asif’s remarks, the second in a week, echo his earlier “all-out war” warning, escalating fears of conflict.
India’s Jal Shakti Minister C R Paatil’s pledge to ensure “not a drop” reaches Pakistan has heightened stakes, though India lacks immediate capacity to block flows.
Pakistani farmers fear flooding or drought, as 80% of their agriculture depends on the Indus. While Pakistan seeks World Bank or ICJ intervention, India’s non-cooperation may limit options. As both nations exchange LoC fire nightly, global calls for restraint grow, but diplomatic resolution remains elusive.
