Pakistan Suicide Attack Leaves 15 Dead, Including Military Personnel
Suicide bombing kills soldiers and civilians in Pakistan.
Fifteen people, including 12 soldiers, two police personnel and a government official, were killed after an explosives-laden vehicle was rammed into a security checkpoint in northwestern Pakistan, the country’s military said on Friday. The attack took place in Tank district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, which shares a border with Afghanistan.
According to the Pakistan Army, attackers attempted to breach the security checkpoint but failed and then drove the explosive-filled vehicle into the outer wall of the facility. The blast caused severe damage to the checkpoint infrastructure and resulted in multiple casualties among security personnel and government employees stationed there.
The military described the deceased personnel as having made the “ultimate sacrifice” while defending the country. Following the attack, security forces launched a retaliatory operation in which 12 militants were killed, according to the army statement. Further details about the operation and the identities of those killed were not immediately released.

The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), also known as the Pakistani Taliban, claimed responsibility for the attack. The group said four suicide bombers were involved in the assault, which adds to growing concerns over increased militant activity in parts of northwestern Pakistan.
Militancy has increased in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and other border regions in recent months. Pakistan has repeatedly accused militants operating in these areas of receiving support from networks based in Afghanistan, a claim denied by Afghanistan’s Taliban government. The issue has contributed to rising tensions between the two neighbouring countries.
The Pakistani government has said militant groups use safe havens across the border to plan and carry out attacks, while Afghan authorities maintain that security issues inside Pakistan are a domestic matter. The latest attack comes amid continued efforts by Pakistani security forces to counter armed groups that have been fighting the state for years.
