Pakistan Opens Doors for Over 2,800 Indian Sikh Pilgrims for Baisakhi 2026
Pakistan grants over 2,800 visas to Indian Sikh pilgrims for Baisakhi visits to major gurdwaras.
Pakistan has issued more than 2,800 visas to Indian Sikh pilgrims ahead of the upcoming Baisakhi celebrations, in a move seen as an effort to promote religious outreach and cross-border harmony. The visas will allow pilgrims to visit key religious sites in Pakistan between April 10 and April 19.
The annual pilgrimage holds deep spiritual significance for the Sikh community, as Baisakhi marks the formation of the Khalsa and is one of the most important festivals in Sikhism. According to a statement from the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi, the initiative aims to facilitate smooth travel and ensure a meaningful religious experience for devotees.
During their visit, pilgrims are expected to travel to prominent Sikh shrines, including Gurdwara Panja Sahib, Gurdwara Nankana Sahib, and Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib, all of which hold historical and religious importance. These sites are closely associated with the lives and teachings of Sikh Gurus and attract pilgrims from around the world.

Pakistan’s Charge d’Affaires to India, Saad Ahmad Warraich, extended greetings to the visiting pilgrims and wished them a spiritually fulfilling stay. He emphasised that such visits reflect Pakistan’s commitment to fostering interreligious understanding and cultural exchange between the two nations.
Warraich also highlighted Pakistan’s role in preserving religious heritage, stating that the country remains committed to promoting values of tolerance, goodwill, and mutual respect. The development comes amid fluctuating diplomatic relations, but such initiatives are often viewed as confidence-building measures that help maintain people-to-people connections.
The visa issuance aligns with long-standing bilateral arrangements that facilitate religious pilgrimages despite broader political tensions. Observers note that continued cooperation in this domain can contribute to improved mutual trust and cultural engagement between India and Pakistan, even as larger geopolitical challenges persist.
