Pahargaon Police Station Secures India’s Second-Top Spot, HM Amit Shah Honors Inspector Elias
Pahargaon Police Station achieves national recognition, earning 2nd-best rank at the DGP/IGP Conference, boosting Andaman's policing reputation.
Pahargaon Police Station in South Andaman has been ranked the second-best police station in India for 2025, receiving the prestigious honor at the 60th All-India Conference of DGPs/IGPs in Raipur, Chhattisgarh. Union Home Minister Amit Shah presented the award to Inspector Mohammed Elias, Station House Officer of Pahargaon, during the conference’s inaugural session attended by National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and senior police leadership from across the country.
The top three stations this year are
- Ghazipur Police Station, Delhi
- Pahargaon Police Station, Andaman & Nicobar Islands
- Kavitla Police Station, Raichur District, Karnataka
One of the busiest jurisdictions in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Pahargaon covers rapidly growing residential areas under the Sri Vijaya Puram Municipal Council, key suburban pockets, and rural hinterland around the capital. The station handles a high volume of public interactions, criminal investigations, traffic management, and preventive policing, making the national recognition a testament to sustained on-the-ground excellence.

The annual ranking, coordinated by the Ministry of Home Affairs through the Intelligence Bureau, evaluates stations on parameters including:
- Quality and speed of investigations
- Case disposal rates
- Community outreach and gender-sensitive policing
- Infrastructure, cleanliness, and accessibility
- Effective use of CCTNS and technology
- Transparency and public service delivery
This is not Pahargaon’s first appearance in the national list; it previously featured in the top five, while Campbell Bay, Aberdeen, and Kalighat stations from the islands have also earned recognition in recent years. The consistent performance highlights systematic improvements in policing standards across the Union Territory.
The award has sparked widespread pride among residents and officials in the islands, where police forces operate in geographically challenging and strategically sensitive terrain. Local leaders and citizens have hailed the achievement as proof that even remote jurisdictions can set national benchmarks through dedication, transparency, and community trust.
