Oman Had Barred Flydubai Co-Pilot From Flying Over Extremist Views, Reports Say

Hamam Alhammami, the Omani co-pilot accused of attempting to sabotage a Flydubai flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv, is facing increased scrutiny over his background as authorities investigate the incident. Alhammami, an Omani citizen born in the United Arab Emirates, was reportedly barred from flying by Oman after concerns emerged that he had adopted extremist views.
Alhammami was born to an Omani father and a Syrian mother, according to reports. Questions surrounding his past have now become part of the investigation following the incident aboard Flydubai flight FZ1073, with authorities examining whether his alleged actions were connected to any extremist beliefs or other motives.
Reports have also drawn attention to material allegedly associated with Alhammami that included views described as misogynistic. Investigators are examining his background and previous conduct as they try to establish what may have motivated the alleged attack and whether there were warning signs before the incident.

The investigation comes after the co-pilot allegedly attacked Captain Smit Machchhar inside the cockpit while the aircraft was travelling from Dubai to Tel Aviv on September 30. The incident forced the flight to make an emergency landing in Saudi Arabia, where Alhammami was detained before being transferred to the United Arab Emirates.
Authorities are also examining reported material linked to Alhammami that included references to terrorist figures. However, questions remain over the authenticity and authorship of some of the material, including whether it was posted by Alhammami himself or by another person using his account.
Alhammami's reported flying ban in Oman, his alleged views and the material being examined are now among the areas of interest in the probe. Investigators are expected to establish whether these details have a direct connection to the flight incident and determine the circumstances and motive behind the alleged attack.
