Om Birla Interacts With MPs and Delegates From Over 30 Countries at Parliament House

Om Birla meets MPs and 30+ international delegates to discuss India’s parliamentary practices and democratic system.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Friday interacted with Members of Parliament and delegates from over 30 countries visiting the Parliament House, in a session aimed at strengthening international understanding of democratic systems and parliamentary traditions.

During the meeting, Birla and the visiting delegation discussed a wide range of topics, including democratic governance, parliamentary practices, cultural ties, and contemporary global challenges. The discussions provided an opportunity for meaningful exchanges on how democratic institutions operate across different countries.

Sharing details on X, Birla said the delegates closely observed India’s parliamentary system and expressed appreciation for its robust democratic framework. “The members of the delegation closely observed and appreciated India’s strong parliamentary democratic system, the functioning of Parliament, and its rich traditions. They expressed great admiration and happiness after witnessing the structure of India’s Parliament, its historic legacy, and our deep commitment to democratic values,” he said.

The international delegates are in India to participate in the NXT Conclave 2026 in New Delhi, which brings together representatives from policy, academia, business, politics, and science. Birla extended his best wishes to the participants for a successful and meaningful stay in India, highlighting the importance of such interactions in fostering global understanding.

The visit comes a day after Birla addressed the Lok Sabha following the rejection of a no-confidence motion against him. He thanked members for participating in the debate, noting that discussions lasting over 12 hours aimed to understand the concerns and viewpoints of every member. Birla emphasized that the functioning of Parliament is guided strictly by established rules and procedures.

During his tenure, Birla said, he has consistently encouraged all members, including those hesitant to speak, to present their views in the House, reinforcing the democratic foundations of the Lok Sabha. “I have repeatedly requested members who were reluctant to participate in debates to speak in the House, as this strengthens the foundations of democracy,” he added.
