North Korea Confirms Continued Support For Russia In Ukraine Conflict
North Korea reaffirms support for Russia in Ukraine war cooperation.
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has reaffirmed Pyongyang’s strong support for Russia’s military campaign in Ukraine, describing Moscow’s actions as a “sacred” war and pledging continued backing for what he called Russia’s pursuit of victory. The remarks were reported by North Korea’s state media KCNA following high-level meetings between the two countries.
According to KCNA, Kim made the comments during discussions with Russian Defence Minister Andrey Belousov, who visited North Korea over the weekend. Kim stated that North Korea would “fully support” Russia’s policies aimed at defending national sovereignty, territorial integrity, and security interests. He also expressed confidence that the Russian military and people would achieve victory in what he termed a “just sacred war.”
The visit by Russian officials highlighted growing military cooperation between the two countries. Both sides reportedly discussed strengthening defence ties further, with Russia indicating readiness to sign a long-term cooperation plan covering the period from 2027 to 2031. The meetings also included senior Russian parliamentary figures and took place alongside a series of high-level diplomatic engagements in Pyongyang.

During the visit, a memorial complex dedicated to North Korean soldiers who died in the Ukraine conflict was inaugurated. Kim, along with Russian officials, attended the ceremony and paid tribute to the troops, praising their “bravery” and “sacrifice,” according to KCNA. The event also included a concert, fireworks display, and military flyover, underscoring the symbolic importance both sides placed on the alliance.
Reports suggest that North Korea has already provided Russia with missiles, ammunition, and personnel support, while Moscow is believed to have offered financial aid, food supplies, energy resources, and military technology in return. Analysts view this exchange as part of a broader deepening of strategic cooperation between two diplomatically isolated nations, formalised under a military treaty signed in 2024.
The developments come amid continuing conflict in Ukraine, where the war has caused widespread casualties and geopolitical tensions. South Korean estimates suggest that thousands of North Korean soldiers may have been deployed, with reports indicating significant losses. Meanwhile, regional diplomatic efforts continue, even as Pyongyang maintains its hardline stance toward Seoul, describing South Korea as its “most hostile” adversary.
