Noida International Airport, Akasa Air Collaborate to Launch First MRO Facility in India
Noida International Airport and Akasa Air partner to establish MRO facility, enhancing aviation capabilities and creating jobs.
Noida International Airport (NIA) has partnered with Akasa Air to establish a state-of-the-art Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility at the airport, a move aimed at strengthening India’s aviation infrastructure. The airport, located in Jewar district, is approximately 75 km from Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport.
Under the partnership, Akasa Air will operate the MRO facility within NIA’s premises, providing advanced services across a wide range of aircraft maintenance activities. According to an official release, the facility is expected to enhance operational efficiency, maintain high safety standards, and support the growing demands of India’s expanding aviation market.
The collaboration is also projected to generate local employment opportunities and foster skill development in the region. NIA highlighted that the MRO hub will play a crucial role in building an integrated aviation ecosystem that drives long-term industry growth and contributes to the regional economy.
“This partnership marks a major step in shaping a world-class aviation hub in India,” said Christoph Schnellmann, CEO of NIA, adding that Akasa Air’s decision to establish its first Indian MRO facility at the airport is a strong endorsement of this vision. He emphasized that the initiative will advance operational excellence while creating avenues for training and employment.
Vinay Dube, Founder and CEO of Akasa Air, noted that the collaboration reflects the airline’s long-term strategy. “As India’s aviation market grows at an unprecedented pace, developing strong domestic MRO capabilities will be critical for airlines to operate efficiently and reliably at scale,” he said.
Industry experts say the partnership aligns with broader efforts to strengthen self-reliance in aviation maintenance services in India, fostering innovation and boosting the country’s competitiveness in the global aviation sector. The MRO facility at NIA is expected to become operational shortly.
